Day 1: Arusha – Rongai Gate – Simba Camp
Drive from Arusha to Rongai Gate (1,950m). Begin trekking through farmland and pine forest. Hike
for 6–7 hours, covering 8 km, before reaching Simba Camp (2,600m). This first day of the Mount
Kilimanjaro Trekking Package introduces you to the mountain’s northern slopes. -
Day 2: Simba Camp – Second Cave
Trek across moorland terrain with sweeping views of Kibo Peak. Hiking distance is 6–7 km over 6
hours, arriving at Second Cave Camp (3,450m). This stage aids acclimatization and offers stunning
vistas of the eastern Kilimanjaro slopes. -
Day 3: Second Cave – Kikelewa Camp.
Continue trekking through open moorland and valleys. The hike takes 6–7 hours, covering 9 km,
before reaching Kikelewa Camp (3,600m). The scenery shifts to alpine vegetation, with giant lobelias
and groundsels marking the trail. -
Day 4: Kikelewa Camp – Mawenzi Tarn Hut
A shorter but steeper trek of 5–6 km over 4–5 hours lead to Mawenzi Tarn Hut (4,330m), nestled
beneath the jagged Mawenzi Peak. This day of the Mount Kilimanjaro Trekking Package is crucial for
acclimatization, with breathtaking views of Mawenzi’s rugged cliffs. -
Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn Hut – Kibo Hut
Cross the lunar desert between Mawenzi and Kibo. Trekking distance is 9–10 km over 5–6 hours,
arriving at Kibo Hut (4,700m). Rest and prepare for the summit push. The barren landscape
highlights the challenge ahead. -
Day 6: Kibo Hut – Summit Uhuru Peak – Horombo Hut
Summit day begins at midnight. Trek steep scree slopes to Gilman’s Point (5,681m), then continue to
Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Hiking time is 10–12 hours, covering 15 km. After
celebrating at the summit, descend to Horombo Hut (3,720m) for overnight rest. -
Day 7: Horombo Hut – Marangu Gate – Arusha
Descend through rainforest to Marangu Gate (1,800m). Hiking distance is 18 km over 5–6 hours.
